Human body produces harmful molecules called free radicals. Once formed these highly reactive radicals can start a chain reaction  and react with important cellular components such as DNA, or the cell membrane. Cells may function poorly or die if this occurs. To prevent free radical damage the body has a natural defence system called antioxidants.

Antioxidants protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants safely interact with free radicals and help terminate the chain reaction before vital molecules are damaged. Antioxidants play a major role in the management and prevention of medical conditions like heart disease, neurological diseases, cancer, low immunity etc. The simplest and most effective way to expose yourself to more antioxidants is through a healthy diet.  Fresh fruits, vegetables, Green tea, nuts, are good sources for supply of anti- oxidants to the body

In today’s lifestyle we all need is ‘quick’, ‘fast’, ‘immediate’……basically things which won’t consume our precious time. Everything can be ‘asap’ but not fixing our body. We need to give time & that kind of environment to our body so that it can heal itself. Our body took 9 months to get ready & prepare itself for survival. It didn’t happen overnight and we continue having the same set of lungs, heart, stomach, liver and all other organ for years to come. When our body was built naturally, why not to maintain it naturally??

Our body is designed in such a way that it can heal itself. But we are so impatient that even if we sneeze, we start taking medicines so that we can prevent illness & can continue our work. In this case we are not giving enough time for body to start its own preventive & curing systems to work.

What should one do to maintain an environment which will help our body to heal faster?

1)   Food: Include more of natural & raw food in your daily diet. Eat light especially at night. Food is the fuel for our body.

2)  Sleep: Peaceful & sound sleep is must. One should sleep at least for 7-8 hours DAILY. Body’s healing process gets activated during our sleep.

3)  Water: water makes 50-60% of our body. Don’t stay dehydrated & thirsty for long time. It also helps to flush out toxins.

4)  Exercise: we were born to move, jump, run, walk and all the possible movements you can think of. There is no excuse for exercise. It helps improve circulation which helps in healing.

5)  Mind: keep calm, stay stress free, meditate, deep breathe & pray regularly.


If these five elements are balanced then our body will be the strongest & it will take care of itself.

Thyroid disturbances: An upcoming Devil

Hypothyroid happens when the functioning of thyroid gland slows down. Our body has got many systems which works in harmony to keep us healthy. One of these systems is hormonal or endocrine system which is an important part of our body’s equilibrium. If a single gland or hormone gets disturbed, it will affect the whole of body’s work on a micro/cellular level.

Some of the main reason for thyroid dysfunctions are- congenital, stress, medication and of course, lifestyle and diet. Thyroid gland takes up mainly iodine as its food and makes hormones.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism which is a very commonly found condition:

-          Lethargy, tiredness, weakness

-          Loss of interest in doing work

-          Increased sensitivity to cold

-          Dry skin

-          Thinning of hair

-          Cloudiness of thoughts

-          Weight gain

-          Constipation


Symptoms of hyperthyroidism:

-          Weight loss

-          Nervousness, irritability

-          Poor concentration

-          Increased sensitivity to hot weather

-          Disturbed sleep

-          Yoga helps to calm your mind and de-stress your body

-          Meditation helps to a great extent

-          Balanced food can never go wrong in any disease- especially in thyroid, up the intake of protein, have good fats and eat more of fruits and vegetables.

-          Exercise is an integral part to stay healthy
