What is gluten?

gluten pic

Gluten free diet is on rise especially in UK and US. In India, wheat is a staple food, so this diet is not so common. Gluten has come in the picture due to its side effects on some people who are sensitive to it.

Gluten is the protein content in wheat, barley and rye.  This gluten gives elasticity to the dough, gives chewy texture and shape to the food items.

What gluten does?

As gluten is a protein, some people are allergic to it. It causes inflammation of small intestine due to which digestive problems like bloating, gas, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache will arise.

This is also known as coeliac disease, where the need of gluten free diet is advised.

One can include following food items in gluten free diet:

  • Fruits and vegetable
  • Beans, nuts and seeds
  • Fresh meat, fish and poultry
  • Fresh eggs
  • Dairy products

Advice from verynutri:

  •  Verynutri suggests  that one should read the labels of readymade, packaged food for its contents.
  •  Replace wheat, rye and barley with other source of carbohydrates like rice, corn, soy, quinoa etc.
  • Exercise is must
  • Drink enough water

Live a healthy life!

Our body- Nature’s gift:

Our body is very close to nature. It behaves or adopts itself to BE with nature. We have to be very caring and cautious about our body and its health. The saying ‘what you give comes back to you’ is very much true for our health too.

Our system not only synchronizes its functions with age, hormones, lifestyle, gender, food, exercise or even mind but with nature too. Ages ago when there was no light, the night was only to give rest to our body. The revolution has snatched many important things from our life. The best example of it is a good night’s sleep which is ruined because of gadgets like TV, computer, laptop, mobile and all the stress due to these. This affects our body, its functions and thus our health.

Verynutri suggests all to wake up when sun rises and limit your activities when the sunset sets in. The same with food habits, have good, heavy food in the morning and reduce intake when the day is to end. In Ayurveda it is mentioned that the acid secretion in stomach very much behaves like sun in the sky. So, follow the saying ‘ eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a beggar’.

Be healthy, be happy!
